How to become a member of Bedford Credit Union (BCU)
Eligibility
If you live or work in Bedford (or the surrounding areas), or in the North Central Bedfordshire District area, you are eligible to join the Credit Union. (See list on the Common Bond page)
Application Process
You will need to visit our office in Bedford or one of our Collection Points (a place where BCU have a facility in the local community for members to deposit money) to complete an application form.
Identification
When you join you will be asked to provide two separate pieces of identification: one to prove identity and one to prove your address (However if you are unable to meet this requirement, please come and speak with us, we are here to help and encourage new members)
Proof of Identity could be a:
- Full Passport,
- Full Driving Licence,
- Notice of Tax Coding (current year),
- Child Benefit Book,
- Pension Book,
- HM Forces ID Card
Proof of address could include:
- A recent utility bill (electricity, gas, water etc.)
- Bank, Building Society or Credit Card Statement, Mortgage Statement, Council Tax Demand, Mail Order Statement
Joining Fee
We have a £3 joining fee: this covers the cost of administration. Once your application is accepted and you make a deposit of at least £1, you are a member!
Application For Junior Membership
Junior accounts can be opened by or for under 18 year olds. Deposits can be made either by Standing Order through a guardian's account, deducted from guardian's payroll, or paid directly into the Credit Union Office.
Identification Requirement
The adult opening the account needs to be identified with 2 forms of ID and the junior is identified by either a Birth Certificate or Passport.
School Savers Clubs
We run a number of School Savers Clubs. If you are a pupil, parent, teacher or school governor and you believe in helping children to save and develop good habits while they are young, we would like to hear from you. Please let us know if you would be interested in helping to set up a school saving clubs in a particular school.
