Credit Unions and Volunteering
Like all Credit Unions, we rely on Volunteers to attend to many of the tasks required to meet our members' needs. We employ one full-time and one part-time staff in our offices, but there is a big role for our volunteers in operating the Credit Union.

Because our volunteers are also members themselves, they have a good understanding of the things that matter to our members and that gives us an advantage over the more impersonal High Street banks. In fact, our members often compliment us on our personal service and for taking that bit of extra care.
There are lots of ways a volunteer can play a useful role in the Credit Union :
-
Director
-
Community Champion
-
Workplace Champion
-
Project Support Volunteer
-
Collection Point Cashier
-
Schools Savings Club Volunteer
When you get involved as a Credit Union volunteer, you can :
- learn new skills
- be with like-minded colleagues
- make new friends
- support something worthwhile
- make a difference to your community.
The key skills we are looking for include :
- dealing with people in a friendly and polite manner
- good communication skills
- basic numeracy
- computer skills (desirable, not essential)
- commitment to the goals and values of the Credit Union
- enthusiasm.
We offer full training to all volunteers and in return ask them for a few hours a week of their time. Because of the nature of what the Credit Union does, we are looking for a long-term commitment and we would wish all volunteers to become Credit Union members. Volunteers are obviously not paid but expenses are covered.
Please contact us at the Bedford Credit Union (details at the Contacts page) if you are interested in becoming a volunteer.
